  • Hi Helen,

Please try the following the steps below:

    1. Open the Menu

    2. Select the Phonebook

    3. Tap the icon of three silhouettes or press the Action Key > Filter

    4. Select 'Display Contacts'

    5. Untick All Groups, leaving only Google Contacts ticked

    6. Go back into Phonebook

You should then see all your Google Contacts displayed.

  • Hi Johnny,

    Thanks for the reply.

However, my problem is I can't get my phonebook sync/upload to Google(online)

    then sync/dowload to another smartphone...

No matter how many times I've tried to let it "sync with Gmail now"

I don't get any contacts on the gmail acct...

  • Are all your Contacts actually saved as Google Contacts?

    - Johnny.

  • Hi Johnny,

uhh,.. I saved my contacts as for (this) phone...

do you know how can i change them to Google Contacts?

  • The first thing you will need to do is save all the contacts on your handset to the SIM Card or memory stick (we would suggest doing both). To do this please follow the below steps:

    1. Open the Menu

    2. Select Phonebook

    3. Push the Action Key (bottom right button)

    4. Select Backup Contacts

    5. Choose “SIM Card” or “SD Card”

This will create a backup of all contacts that are saved on the handset memory; once complete you will then need to restore the contacts back to the handset as Google contacts. Please follow the steps below to do this:

    1. Open the Menu

    2. Select the Phonebook

    3. Press the Action Key

    4. Select Import Contacts > SIM Card/SD Card

    5. Select Google

Now when you attempt to sync again, all the contacts will be seen as Google contacts and be transferred to your account. We would suggest logging into your Google account to check all of your contacts are there.

Please note that when synchronising contacts from your Sony Ericsson handset to your Google account we would suggest you use Wi-Fi when possible as this provides a more secure connection.

Once all of the above has been performed and your contacts have successfully synchronised to Google, you will need to delete the contacts from the handset which are saved as “Phone contacts” to remove the duplicates. This can be done by following the steps below:

    1. Open the Menu

    2. Select the Phonebook

    3. Tap the icon of three silhouettes or press the Action Key > Filter

    4. Select “Display Contacts”

    5. Untick All Groups, leaving only Phone Contacts ticked

    6. Go back into Phonebook, press the Action Key

    7. Select Delete Contacts

    8. Mark All > Delete

  • Hi Johnny,

    Thanx a lot!! you're a lifesaver!

the solutions you provided are the best ones I've got from web! :)

Have you noticed that Xperia S doesn't have SD?

should I choose to save in the "phone memory"?

The number of my contacts happen to be more than SIM card can store,

do you have suggestions on this?

  • Hi Helen,

Yes, please select 'Internal Storage' instead. It is basically acts as your SD Card would.

    - Johnny.

  • Thank U, Johnny!~ B-)

  • You're welcome, thanks for posting :) - Johnny.

  • Hi Johnny, do you know where in my Gmail account I can find the contact I sync in my Xperia S?

  • When you log into Gmail on your PC, click Gmail on the left then select Contacts from the drop down :)

  • hi, I have some contacts on gmail, but when I export them to my PC, only email IDs shows, not a single phone number, what to do?

  • Hello Sony Xperia,

I have tried to back up my contacts to the Internal Storage, however it throws an error "Unable to Stream".

What would be the best resolution for this error? I intend to have all my phone contacts synched to the G-Mail contacts list.

  • I have sync problem on my mobile.

This may be a setting problem.

I got all old contact on phone after sync with my gmail account. But after that I started saving new contact on my new xperia C in Local Contact, but this contacts are not showing in gmail contacts (or my contact on gmail). Please help how to sync/add new contact to gmail account from phone.

  • By the far the most helpful post I have ever come across for this problem!

    Thank you everyone!

  • Dear Sony,

Sorry for being so bad at this, but I've Sync-ed the contacts into a Gmail account, and I managed to Sync it back into that same phone.

However, upon using another phone, I did not manage to Sync it to that particular phone. The error was no vcf files found.

    So what do I do? Simple terms please, I'm not that good at this ;-;
