The SK-II Facial Treatment Essence or known also as the ‘holy water’ and ‘miracle water’ has garnered a cult following for many years. This has spawned also other companies which has tried to emulate the success of Japan’s SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. Missha shook things up this year with a direct comparison to the SK-II : almost the same name, same packaging, and flaunts it proudly side-by-side SK-II in its advertisement. Read our earlier comparison : here

Here i will be doing a rundown on the different Yeast Fermentation Treatment Essence :

    1. SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

    Main Ingredient :

Pitera ( 90% ) , was discovered purely by chance. About thirty years ago, a scientist noticed that the hands of workers at a Japanese saké brewery looked beautiful and young. This was the inspiration behind five years of research by a team of scientists who screened through over 300 types of yeasts and refined the precise conditions for fermentation, leading to the discovery of SK-II's signature ingredient, Pitera.

Derived from a unique yeast's fermentation, Pitera is a blend of vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and organic acids that work together to allow the skin's natural surface rejuvenation process to function at its prime, enhancing the renewal of the skin's outer layer.

    Pros :

    90% of Yeast Extract

    Fragrance Free

    Alcohol Free

    4. Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence

Secret Key couldn’t help it – they had to go head to head with Missha and release something even more similar to SK-II . So now it will be known not only as the copycat of SK-II but also the Missha copycat! Lol. Secret Key has been a lower-end brand but lately, they have been introducing premium range products that are above 40,000 wons like the Secret Key Prestige Snail Cream & Secret Key Stem Cell Cream. The packaging is exactly like SK-II ( and Missha? ), even the font and colour are the same. Wow. Doesn’t help that Secret Key has the initials SK too.

However, this isn’t surprising at all as Secret Key is known to be a trend follower – most of their products look like copycats of other brand’s products except sold at a cheaper price. Their motto : Strike while it’s still hot. It’s a good thing i guess for consumers? Why pay more when you can have something that is almost the same, but much cheaper? Not to mention, paraben free too!

    Main Ingredient :

    90% Fermented Yeast Extract ( exactly like SK-II’s yeast % )

    Pros :

100% Satisfaction Guaranteed ( 14-Day Free Refund Service if not satisfied )

    7- Free System ( Parabens, etc )

    Cheapest among the 4 Essence

Contains other ingredients such as Chamomile Extracts ( calming ), Green Tea Extracts ( anti-oxidants ), Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract ( boosts skin’s ability to absorb moisture ), Baicalin ( anti-inflammation and antioxidant ) , Giant Knotweed Extract ( source of resveratrol found also in wine. Contains Vitamin C & Tannin ), Centella Asiatica ( anti-aging ) , Rosemary Extract ( antioxidant ).

    Cons :

    Lack of identity and originality
