Topic : Television destroys family living and communication because it absorbs people’s time too much that they have no time to talk with each other. To what extent do you agree or disagree.
The creation of television is undoubtedly one of humankind’s greatest innoventions. It plays an important role in connecting members of the society as well as expanding relationships among different countries. Television, with its wide availability and rich media with image and sound, has a great mean of eliminating people’s strain and tension. However, critics have claimed that the presence of television can destroy family living and communication owning to the sad truth that it absorbs people’s time too much. I strongly disagree with this opinion.
Firstly, opponents believe that television viewing isolates people from each other, damages communication among family members and sows the seeds of discord between groups of people. For example, too much time spending in watching TV could cause some people to waste their whole days as they shut doors and immerse themselves into broadcast programmes. The prevalence of so-called “sedentary lifestyle” in modern societies lead to an increasing number of people, especially the young, prevent themselves from relations to people around. However, is it true in any circumstance? There is no disputing the fact that contemporary pace of life is becoming increasingly rapid. People are so busy in fulfilling their job requirements that they have very little time to spend with family. Therefore, it is no exaggeration to say that the evening when whole family are gathered round the television is almost unique time of reunion after an exhausted working day. These priceless moments contribute to nuture family happiness and love between parents and children in stead of breaking down these relationships as some disapproving arguments mentioned.
When it comes to marriage collapse, some people view television as one of the major trigger. It is likely that so unconcerned with house chroses are some husbands that they nearly ignore all of the family chores. The divorce rate climbing among young couples is seen to associate with those unpleasant cases in the spousal life. Nevertheless, would it be totally equitable when the reasons are traced to varied temptations, say, internet, gambling, alcohol, drugs and others, apart from television watching? Obviously, if TV were not existent, surely those people would have found other escapes. Besides, it is fact that numerous housewives even enjoy the way that their beloved stay at home and surf television channels rather than let him fall into dangerous seductions.
To put it simply, television as well as other soulless devices only are implements satisfying our living demand. These tools themselves are not good or bad. The problem here only is how we employ them to serve our lives.
