Cat constipation

  • I'm starting to get a little concerned about my babies (two cats--a boy and girl) and wondered if anyone knows what to do in this situation.

I've noticed when scooping the my cats litter box that they are not eliminating as much waste as they used to. It been decreasing for the last three weeks and I'm wondering if there's something I can give them to get their system going again. I've used pumkin from time to time as a hairball treatment and was wondering if that might help this situation too.

Any thoughts? Starting to get worried...

  • I just saw that this topic was discussed on a previous thread with a couple great ideas and advise. I'll take a look at those options (probiotics and musilex). If anyone has other ideas, please let me know.

  • Canned food....not dry! Read Tracy Hochner's books.

  • yes....stop the dry food. I had to do this with my cat and he is doing soo much better. THough he is not always fond of the wet choices he has...but so long as he eats he is not being blocked and has softer stools

  • Thanks so much! That's what I've been trying. I also had ordered some of the probiotic and things seem to be moving again for my cats. They have always liked their hard food, so I'm wondering if its ok to feed them the crunchy stuff in small amounts.

    Thoughts anyone?

  • my guy loves his cruncy food and i have not given him ANY...maybe chop it up so they have the flavor..or add some water to the wet food so it had moisture..
