Slow Cooker Chocolate Lava Cake

  • Slow Cooker Chocolate Lava Cake

1 package devils food cake mix

    3 eggs

    1/3 cup vegetable oil

    1 2/3 cups water

1 package Jell-O Chocolate Flavor Instant Pudding Mix

    2 cups cold milk

    1 bag (12 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips

    Directions

Prepare cake mix into batter using eggs, oil, and water. Pour into crock-pot.

Prepare Jell-O Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix using milk. Pour this over cake mix in crock-pot. Sprinkle chocolate chips all over the top of the batter.

Cook in crock-pot on high setting for 2 1/2 to 3 hours until cake is moist but not jiggle, and little volcanoes of spitting chocolate appear on top. Serve with ice cream, whipped topping, or on its own for a really special dessert.

Notes For best results use a crock-pot liner so sides don't burn to your crock-pot.

You can use just about any kind of cake mix or pudding mix or even different kinds of chips. Create anything you want with this simple recipe!

  • This was also on the old Crock Pot Girls page and I copied it over here. Made this a few months ago and boy was it good.

  • What sz crock do you use?

  • I would like to know the size also, I have a larger crock pot

  • I sed a 6 qt and it came out wonderful!

  • 7 quart

  • I would suggest a larger one, if you do a smaller one, i would cook it on low for 4 hours, and it turns wonderful!

  • Today is my son's 12th birthday. This is the birthday cake he wanted, it's in the crock right now I can't wait to try it. I hope its good.

Update: it has not been 2 hours and it is smelling burnt :o(

  • Maybe this is a dumb question, but do you prepare the instant pudding, do you follow the directions on the box?

  • Yes, prepare the instant pudding with milk.

  • *Help~getting ready to make this, do I use the above oil and water measurements for the cake mix or follow my cake mix box mine calls for 1 1/4 c water and 1/2 c oil.

  • Use the measurements listed above, not what is on the box.

  • Thank you so much!

  • I have this in the crock pot right now as I'm typing this and oh my does it smell good. My concern is that the recipe doesn't say what size box of instant pudding to use. (there are two sizes available) I used what I had in the cupboard which was the smaller box... hope it turns out!

  • The one that calls for 2 cups of milk.

  • I am going to make this next weekend I was just wondering about the pudding. Do I mix it until it is thick and ready to eat and then pur it on or do I just mixit with the milk and pour it straight onto the cake batter?

  • Just mix it with the milk and pour it straight onto the cake batter.

  • Made this on Saturday and OMG! It was heavenly!!!!!!!!!!!!! A nice scoop of ice cream on the side makes it even better.

  • Made this last night and it is awesome!!! And sooo easy!!

  • did this in my 3 1/2 qt crock pot for Thanksgiving and it was terrible!! The pudding turned GREEN and the cake part was dry. Cooked as directed for 2 hours, then it was off until we ate it after dinner. Something was DEFINITELY NOT RIGHT!! Followed the directions exactly as posted.

  • Did anyone know why the pudding turned green? I've made a version of the BC recipe & never had a problem. Made the BC version & it turned a sickly looking green - like something that would be rancid! Sadly, it was for a party & I was shocked & embarrassed. What went wrong?
